In-Play Betting

In-Play betting is when you place a bet when an event or match has already started, I’m sure you have all seen the television adverts with Ray Winstone for Bet365 that come on during half time of a football match telling you that you can back Team A to win at odds of 6/1 in-play. So that is what In-Play betting is in simple terms.

If you have placed a bet in-play before I am sure that you have seen how quickly the odds fluctuate up and down depending on what is happening in the event or match. It can be hard to place a bet, and because the odds move so quickly we can’t get any help from the Oddsmatcher, you have to find a matched betting opportunity manually.

The best bit of advice to give in regards to in-play betting is to wait until a break in the event or match, usually half time in a football or rugby match or at the interval in a cricket match. The odds whilst still moving up and down are a lot more stable than whilst the match is in progress.

Try and stick to popular betting markets that will have lots of liquidity waiting to be matched, Match Odds, Correct Score or Over/Under markets are all popular markets and should help your bet get matched quicker. Also try and open three windows if you are working on a computer or tablet, one window for the bookmaker, one for the betting exchange so you can see how close the odds are, and a third window for the matched betting calculator.

Always check the terms & conditions of each individual offer that you attempt, most In-Play qualifying bets have a minimum odds requirement to unlock the bonus. If the min odds are 1.5 then look for something to back and lay with odds around 1.5 – 3.00.

Once you have found a matched betting opportunity use the calculator to work out the stake to lay and what your qualifying loss will be. If you are happy place the Back bet at the bookmaker and make sure the bet is definitely placed as in-play bets have a delay whilst accepting you bet, usually around 8-12 seconds. Then place the Lay bet and again make sure your bet is matched as it will also have a 8-12 delay. Be aware the odds might change whilst placing the bets so be prepared to adjust the calculator accordingly.

If you are using a free bet in-play then you should stick to the same principles as any free bet in looking for higher odds to maximize profit.
